NGC 6853

NGC 6853, M27, or the Dumbbell Nebula and is located about 1360 light years from Willingboro. It has a radius of about 1.4 light years.

It is a planetary nebula which is basically formed by a dying star shedding its outer layers (peacefully, I guess). The dying star then becomes a white dwarf. This is what undoubtedly will happen to us, eventually.

The Dumbbell Nebula (NGC 6853) as seen from Willingboro, NJ on September 3, 2023, beginning at 10:24 pm EDT.
